The last plan has been prepare since the New Year, and production started one week ago. Architonic Concept Space III, projected by Oskar Zieta (Zieta Prozessdesign) and the CAAD faculty at the ETH Zurich will be celebrating its first to coincide with the starting of this year’s imm cologne on 19 January. In the second section of our ‘Making of’ content we’d like to offer you with more perceptivities into the manufacturing work.

It’s to be standard and adjustable to varied stand sizes, simple to established and disassemble time and time again, handy to carry on a single truck etc. – this was the difficult briefing for the Architonic Concept Space. For Zieta it was a perfect chance to provide a first demonstration of the versatility of his FiDU (Freie InnenDruck Umformung) light building method in an architectural circumstance. This extremely flexible technology, in which precision-cut and welded piece metal parts are exploded below high pressure to build three-dimensional forms, could almost have been made especially for this difficult project.

The answer is a modular construction consisting of identical, increased sheet metal modules. Relaying on the stand size they may be located next to each other, behind each other and even on top of each other. The essence of the entire building is the joining points which attach the whole construction and distribute the powers implicated across the endorses and cross members, stabilizing it in all instructions.
