Consider the container, the style of the room, the spot in which arrangement is to stand. Then arrange flowers and plants by taking your cue from simple shapes like arcs, ovals, triangles, etc. Here are a few ideas o start you off:
Put your plants on an egg diet. Save eggshells, put them in water, and let stand for several hours< Water plants with this liquid. The lime extracted from the eggshells will greatly benefit the plants.
Tonic for ferns. About once a week, water your house ferns with some leftover tea. Perks ‘em up, helps them grow.
Painted flowerpots. Clay pots ‘look dull. Make them gay and cheery by painting and decorating them to blend with the color scheme of your room.
Two plants for one. Break off the end of one of the stalks of a snake plant and bury the end about two inches deep in another pot. That’s right. You’ll have two plants for one.
Fireplace garden. An empty fireplace in the summer isn’t very attractive. Fill up the space with a few potted plants, especially those with tall, heavy foliage.
Like turning a sow’s ear into a silk purse is the transformation you can work on an old wheelbarrow. Paint it white, decorate with a bright, rustic design, and turn it into a flower cart for your front lawn. Fill interior with potted flowering plants and greenery. If you like, paint the family name and address on the side of the barrow facing the street.

Flowers look best when set off by foliage and branches. Don’t use too many flowers in your arrangements, either. Crowding them detracts from their charm and beauty.
