Excerpts from Niki May Young :
Texas is not going to be the primary location when one considers the plunge into the world of art, or at least will not, until now. Billed as the most significant cultural complex in the United States since New York’s Lincoln Center, U.S. $ 354-million Dallas Center for Performing Arts is set to open next month to complete the 25-year city vision for arts district of 68 hectares. And with buildings designed by Pritzker Prize-winning 4 architects, the center is set to the whole world has a concern.

Foster + Partners are challenged with designing Margot and Bill Winspear Opera House and the Margaret McDermott Performance Hall. Hall provides a dramatic red heart wrapped in transparent from the Opera House where 2200 people will be able to enjoy opera, ballet and the Broadway production. Transparency is cemented in a metaphorical form of the inclusion of restaurants and cafes will be open to the public throughout the day. Related design functions with the ultimate aim to encourage universal participation in the experience of the Opera House. This utopian clause also seen in other Foster’s design for the center, that of the Annette Strauss Artist Square, which is expected to become the leading cities outside the performing arts, located in the 10-acre Elaine D. and Charles A. Sammons Park, which is designed Desvigne Michel Paris, and can accommodate up to 5,000 spectators in the open air setting.
The more intimate Dee and Charles Wyly Theater was designed by Joshua Prince-ramus REX (partner in charge) and Rem Koolhaas of OMA. 600 seat theater offering a twist on the typical architecture of the theater. More than 12 levels of stacked transition zone, the technical work and is positioned above or below the auditorium of the traditional than the artistic director of peripheral settings apparently enables to quickly change the configuration of it to best serve their artistic vision. Again, transparency is central to the design and inclusivity goals so transparent cladding used in the Harry Potter Rose Performance Hall in to allow pedestrians to view the facility, as well as the audience views the Dallas Arts District and the city.
SOM served with a final building design from the cluster, Performance City Hall is set to host the lower-key performance by performing arts organizations are smaller. The project is funded by the City of Dallas and will open in 2011.
But for now both Foster and the prince-ramus and Koolhaas’ collaborative design leads the way in one of the most dramatic cultural similar projects in the United States as the curtain rose on October 12.
