Waterwalk Sustainable Urban Regeneration Project for Brussels Capital
Today almost capital city of the world wellknown for a large pollution because its large population and traffic affected by its acitvity. Brussels have plan to change its environment with Waterwalk Sustainable Urban Regeneration Project
Below is excerpts :
Waterwalk is 30ha project integrated sustainable urban regeneration in the wider strategy of some major components of Brussels reorganization. The goal is the city where recomposing cloth move out of major cities will leave the logistics center of Brownfield sites available in urban areas where social life can be developed, the transportation of CO2 and reduce traffic disruption.
Regeneration will result in the facility in order to revitalize the historic area dedicated to the industry in the two rivers ‘Senne’ and the canal. Urban continuity with the surrounding districts improved through the canal bank walk and the new bridge link across the railway line which isolates the island site.
Holistic environmental and humanistic approach to eco project districts, (with a strong and long-term concern for zero emissions), including opportunities for social diversity through various schemes of new settlements and accessibility to the favorable location of public transport modes, which are designed to reduce pollution. These include cycle and walking tracks, tram, bus, a shuttle canal and increased links to the nearest train station.Heating & cooling demand reduced through the exchange of energy between the functions of the loop together. Loop simultaneously fed by geothermal and canal water exchange, while the hot water recovery was aided by the nearby sewage treatment plant. The scheme also employs renewable electricity through the solar canal banks crops and windmills wind corridor, guided by a tight specification on the water and energy consumption for each component. The scheme allows water collection and biological treatment on site for reuse while purifying the river, the permeability of the soil was taken and imposed a green roof, while the promotion of biodiversity through the green corridors and green ‘stepping stones’ areas. Soil restoration and gradual depollution is achieved through natural enrichment. Experimental techniques of renewable energy production compared to education, research and training in this domain name, the sun, wind, biomass, and geothermal energy to fuel cell technology, in order to reduce the gray waste and energy through the options C2C materials, prefabrication and transportation through the canals and railroads.
The project is dependent on maintained public / private sector dialogue while maintaining the balance between public interests and personal goals, providing a variety of housing units (300.000 m2), and retail complex opened to serve the region (50,000 m2) is connected to the proximity of roads to serve retail environments, schools / education and training facilities, cultural facilities, sports facilities & parks, inter-generational activities and conference facilities for public administration services and urban light industrial buildings and infrastructure (100.000 m2).
Waterwalk is centered on the quality of urban life and provide a model solution to limited densification Brussels area for future generations, while setting trends in sustainable development for the entire region by the second aims at zero energy and C2C requirements generally.
